Ata Rangi Te Wa Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Te Wa, ‘time and place’ in te reo Maori pays homage to the distinctive wine style delivered by the stony, alluvial gravels and the cool climate of the Martinborough Terrace. This blend of skins fermentations with the more traditional pressed juice results in a fragrant perfumed wine, with aromas of citrus blossom, baked apple, mandarin, and aniseed. The entry to the palate is full and intense, with weight that drives through a long and lingering finish. Flavor’s of savoury biscuits and nutmeg further highlight the palate.

One of the pioneers of the region, Clive Paton was one of the first to plant grapes on the Martinborough Terrace in 1980 and the winery has since gone on to become a legend of the New Zealand wine industry. Home of the Gumboot clone of Pinot Noir, a cutting from the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée Conti allegedly smuggled back into the country by an enterprising Kiwi in a pair of gumboots. In 2010 Ata Rangi was honored with the Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoa award, New Zealand's equivalent of Grand Cru status and wine-maker Helen Masters consistently produces some of the countries finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine grape variety that is grown in many regions around the world, including France, California, New Zealand, Chile and Australia. Sauvignon Blanc wines from the region of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé in France are known for their minerality and citrus flavors, while those from New Zealand are known for their tropical fruit flavors. Sauvignon Blanc wines from California and Australia have a more full-bodied style and often show more ripe tropical fruit and oak notes.
Sauvignon Blanc wines are known for their high acidity, crispness and a wide range of flavors, which often reflect the terroir. They can be bright and zesty with flavors of citrus, green apple, and gooseberry or have more tropical flavors such as passion fruit and mango, and sometimes grassy or herbaceous notes.
In general, Sauvignon Blanc wines are considered to be refreshing and easy to drink, they are best served chilled and are perfect for summer days. They pair well with a wide range of foods, particularly seafood, sushi, and salads.
