One of Puglia's most exciting projects, the Accademia dei Racemi was the brainchild of Gregory Perrucci and his wife Elisabetta Goria; founded in 1999 to enhance the quality of wines in the region and shine a spotlight on the indigenous grape varieties of Puglia. It is actually a family of many small estates who share the same aim and philosophy. The estates involved in the project are Racemi, Pervini, Sinfarosa, Tenute Pozzopalo, Felline, Masseria Pepe, Torreguaceto and Casale Bevagna, all estates that specialise in Primitivo along with local varieties that have been threatened with extinction. A noble project with exciting wines which have drawn praise from the Italian wine guide, Gambero Rosso.

Primitivo wine, originating from the sun-drenched region of Puglia in southern Italy, is renowned for its bold and intense flavor profile. Crafted from the Primitivo grape, these wines boast rich notes of dark fruits like blackberry, plum, and cherry, intertwined with hints of spices such as black pepper, cinnamon, and clove. The wine's full-bodied nature delivers a velvety mouthfeel, supported by smooth tannins that provide structure and depth. With a moderate to high alcohol content, Primitivo wines offer a warm and satisfying drinking experience, further enhanced by a balanced acidity that adds freshness and drinkability.
Primitivo wines excel in pairing with a variety of hearty dishes, making them a favorite among enthusiasts of robust flavors. They harmonize beautifully with classic Italian fare, including pasta dishes featuring rich tomato-based sauces, grilled meats like steak or lamb, and aged cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano. Additionally, their versatility extends to bold and spicy cuisines like barbecue and Cajun, where the wine's fruit-forward character and smooth texture complement the savory and aromatic elements of the dishes. Whether enjoyed on its own or alongside a delicious meal, Primitivo wine promises a memorable and gratifying tasting experience.
