Armand Heitz Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Poutures 2022

It is one of the most emblematic wines of the estate. I have been working this terroir since 2013, my first vintage. It is a terroir with a singular personality, totally the opposite of the cliché of a Pommard. This image of rustic and masculine wines is totally reversed by the elegance and finesse of Clos des Poutures. A light colour that I like to keep. My philosophy is to reveal the terroir and not to go against its personality. This disruptive side makes it one of my favourite wines.

Armand Heitz directs this small but growing 5 ha domaine that he farms biodynamically. The domaine's roots descend to 1987 when it was substantially larger (more than 20 ha) but over time bits and pieces were either sold or leased to others. It has taken time, but many of these vineyard leases have come back to family control and they will have exciting new additions coming for 2014, 2015 and beyond. The wines are aromatic, pure and expressive of their terroir - classic nods to old-school Burgundy winemaking practices. All Armand's wines are 100% whole cluster fermentations. As he firmly believes that a wine's essence is derived from the totality of the vine. Each component of the vine, from roots to leaves to stems, skins and pulp, plays an important role in a living wine.

Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety that is known for its delicate and nuanced character. The grape is relatively difficult to grow, but when it is grown in the right conditions, it produces some of the finest and most sought-after wines in the world. Pinot Noir wines are known for their complexity and a wide range of flavors and aromas, which are often described as being "red" or "dark" fruit flavors such as cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, as well as earthy, spicy, and floral notes.
Pinot Noir wines tend to be light- to medium-bodied with a delicate structure and a moderate level of tannins and acidity. The flavor profile of Pinot Noir wines can vary greatly depending on where it is grown, for example, Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France, tends to be elegant and nuanced, with a focus on red fruit and floral notes, while Pinot Noir from Oregon and California tends to be more full-bodied and have a higher proportion of dark fruit flavors.
Pinot Noir is a wine that pairs well with a wide range of foods, particularly poultry, duck, pork and mushroom-based dishes. Due to its delicate character, it's often recommended to serve it slightly chilled to enhance its fruit and floral aromas, and to avoid overpowering the wine with strong or spicy foods.
