It shows a red cherry colour of medium-high intensity, clean and bright. On the nose, it displays an intense aroma of black fruits (plum and blackberry), well integrated with hints of oak and notes of sweet spices. Tasty on the palate, with a smooth, pleasant and fresh entry. It has a long and persistent finish with touches of black fruit, spices and licorice.

Since 1889, five generations of the Valdemar Family have produced some of the finest wines from Rioja. It was Joaquín Martínez Bujanda who started the company with 10 hectares of vines in Rioja Alavesa and over the years the estate has expanded to include some of the best vineyards across the region. Chosen as one of the 5 Best Wine Cellars of Rioja by Wine & Spirits magazine their Conde Valdemar range of wines includes the crisp, energetic Viura white and a selection of beautifully made Tempranillo from Crianza to Reserva and the top-of-the-range Gran Reserva, a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Maturana from the family vineyards in Rioja.

Maturana wines, particularly Maturana Tinta from the Rioja region in Spain, are known for their dark fruit flavors like blackberry and black cherry, often accompanied by herbal and spicy notes. These wines have moderate to high tannins and good acidity, making them suitable for aging. Maturana Tinta is used in red wines and is often blended with other local varieties. There's also a white counterpart, Maturana Blanca, which produces crisp and citrusy white wines. Despite a decline in plantings, there's renewed interest in Maturana, and winemakers are experimenting with both red and white expressions.
