The set of a lot that makes one. One assemblage, many assemblages: the salted savies of Lessona with the metallic and volcanic granites of Bramaterra; the finesse of Nebbiolo with the spices of Vespolina and the crunchiness of Croatina. For a wine that summarizes the idea of ¿¿drinkability of Upper Piedmont.

Proprieta Sperino
Tuscan superstar Paolo de Marchi from Isole e Olena took over the Sperino estate in 1999 with dreams of revitalising the property which had been owned by the Di Marchi family since the early-1900s and realising the dream of returning to his family's origins. Located in the small town of Lessona in Northern Piedmont, Paolo farms his vines from the regions Pliocene marine sands at around 300 metres above sea-level. The varieties are of course Nebbiolo for the Lessona DOC, with the addition of Vespolina and Croatina for the Uvaggio Costa della Sesia DOC beautifully crafted wines from one of Italy’s great winemakers.

Croatina wines, also known as Bonarda in some regions, originate from northern Italy, particularly in Lombardy and Piedmont, where the Croatina grape thrives in the diverse terroirs of the area. While often used as a blending grape, Croatina is also capable of producing intriguing single-varietal wines. These wines are esteemed for their deep color, vibrant acidity, and rich flavors, offering a unique expression of the northern Italian winemaking tradition.
Croatina wines typically exhibit a deep ruby color and offer enticing aromas of dark berries, cherries, and spices, with hints of earth and herbs. On the palate, these wines are characterized by their medium to full-bodied texture, firm tannins, and lively acidity, with flavors of blackberry, plum, and savory notes. Croatina's versatility allows it to pair well with a variety of dishes, from hearty meat dishes and game to pasta with rich tomato sauces and aged cheeses. Whether enjoyed on its own or as part of a blend, Croatina wines capture the essence of northern Italy's winemaking heritage and the diverse terroirs of Lombardy and Piedmont.
