Chateau Musar Red 1998
$202.73 Original price was: $202.73.$182.46Current price is: $182.46.
The cooler 1998 has an elegant Cinsault dominance; the colour is lighter and more delicately perfumed than a typical vintage. Despite this initial impression, the wine is deceptively powerful with a vibrant acidity and fresh, soft red fruit flavours and a very long, spicy finish. The ideal partner to mushroom and game dishes.

Founded by Gaston Hochar in 1930, Chateau Musar lies in a 17th century Mzar castle in Ghazir, just North of Beruit overlooking the Mediterranean sea. One of the great wines of the world Chateau Musar has been run by Gaston's sons, Serge (who studied winemaking under the great Emile Peynaud at the University of Bordeaux) and Ronald since 1959. The grand vin is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache and Mourvedre with the white wine being a blend of native varieties including Merwah and Obaideh. With glowing reviews from international wine critics, Chateau Musar produces an earthy complex range of wines that age beautifully and Serge Hochar was awarded the first Decanter magazine "Man of the Year in 1984".

Carignan wines are typically red wines made primarily from the Carignan grape variety. They are known for their deep color, high tannins, and often rustic character. These wines can exhibit flavors of dark fruits, earthiness, and spice, and their aging potential varies. Carignan is commonly used in blends, especially in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, but some producers make single-varietal Carignan wines. The wine's characteristics can vary depending on the terroir, and it pairs well with a range of foods, particularly grilled meats and Mediterranean dishes.
